Policy and Standard Operating Procedure for Selecting Huffaz to Lead Taraweeh Prayers

1. Purpose

This policy establishes the criteria and standard operating procedures (SOP) for selecting Huffaz and Partial Huffaz to lead Taraweeh prayers during the month of Ramadan at all ISA facilities.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all applicants seeking to lead Taraweeh prayers, including:

Full Huffaz (those who have memorized the entire Qur’an).

Partial Huffaz (those who have memorized a significant portion and wish to co-lead).

Visiting and local candidates.

3. Selection Criteria

To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria:

3.1 Qualifications

Full Huffaz: Must have memorized the entire Qur’an with strong retention.

Partial Huffaz: Must have memorized at least 5 Juz and be comfortable leading under the guidance of an Imam or full Hafiz.

Fluency in recitation with proper Tajweed and Makharij.

Strong spiritual and moral character, adhering to Islamic principles.

Ability to recite confidently and consistently without frequent mistakes.

3.2 Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience leading Taraweeh or Qiyam-ul-Layl.

Recommendation from a scholar, imam, or teacher.

Good voice quality and rhythm in recitation.

4. Application Process

4.1 Submission of Application

Interested applicants must complete an online Google Form before the deadline.

Full Name

Contact Information

Memorization Status (Full or Partial Hafiz)

Number of Juz Memorized (if partial)

Preferred Leading Arrangement (Full or Shared)

Previous Experience in Leading Taraweeh (if any)

Reference from an Imam or Teacher (if available)

4.2 Vetting Process

1. Review of Applications – The Imam and a designated committee will screen applications for eligibility.

2. Recitation Evaluation – Shortlisted applicants will be invited to recite live or submit a recorded recitation for review.

3. Interview (if necessary) – The Imam may conduct brief interviews to assess fluency, confidence, and character.

4. Final Selection – Approved Huffaz will receive official confirmation via email or phone.

5. Responsibilities & Expectations

5.1 Expectations for Selected Huffaz

Lead Taraweeh prayers with sincerity and dedication.

Recite with accuracy, humility, and proper Tajweed.

Arrive on time and coordinate with the Imam and fellow Huffaz.

Dress appropriately and maintain Islamic etiquette.

Maintain consistent retention and prepare assigned portions in advance.

Communicate any scheduling issues with the Imam.

6. Code of Conduct

Huffaz must conduct themselves in a respectful and professional manner.

Any violations of Islamic decorum or masjid guidelines may result in disqualification.

Respectful interactions with masjid attendees, staff, and fellow Huffaz are mandatory.

7. Monitoring & Feedback

The Imam and masjid leadership will oversee Taraweeh to ensure smooth operations.

Regular feedback will be sought from the congregation and masjid leadership.

Any necessary adjustments or corrections will be communicated promptly.

8. Policy Review & Amendments

This policy will be reviewed annually by the masjid committee and updated as needed.

Amendments must be approved by masjid leadership and the Imam.
